Abdullah Gohar is a member of the Egyptian vertebrate paleontology team at Sallam Lab and curator of fossil marine mammals at the Mansoura University Vertebrate Paleontology Center (MUVP), Egypt. He is also a Ph.D. student at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences, USA.
His research focuses on the evolution and paleontology of marine mammals, particularly the land-to-sea transition and the earliest cetaceans. Through MUVP, Abdullah has participated extensively in field projects that have contributed to major vertebrate fossil discoveries in Egypt. He contributed to the naming and description of two ancient whales from the Sahara: the amphibious, four-legged whale Phiomicetus anubis and the fully aquatic Tutcetus rayanensis, the smallest basilosaurid whale yet discovered.
At MUVP, Abdullah contributes to fossil preparation, curation, field exploration, student training, and the documentation and protection of Egypt’s exceptional vertebrate paleontological heritage.
