The Mansoura University Vertebrate Paleontology Center (MUVP) led a study describing the first record of an abelisaurid dinosaur from Egypt’s Bahariya Formation, dating to approximately 98 million years ago.
Based on a fossil vertebra discovered in the Bahariya Oasis,
the study provides new insights into the diversity of large predatory dinosaurs that inhabited North Africa during the Cretaceous Period and highlights the significance of Egypt’s fossil record in understanding ancient ecosystems.
