The dawn of modern ocean fishes

The Mansoura University Vertebrate Paleontology Center (MUVP) led an international study published in Science Advances, revealing that modern marine fish communities were already established just 4 million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs.

The research is based on a newly discovered 62.2-million-year-old fossil

site in Egypt’s Eastern Desert, providing exceptional evidence of the rapid rise and diversification of modern marine fishes following one of Earth's greatest mass extinctions
