The Mansoura University Vertebrate Paleontology Center (MUVP) led an international study describing *Bastetodon syrtos*, a new species of ancient carnivorous mammal discovered in Egypt’s Fayum Depression.

Based on a remarkably preserved fossil skull dating to about 30 million years ago,

the study provides important insights into the evolution of apex predators in Africa and highlights Egypt’s crucial role in understanding ancient mammalian ecosystems.
